Although Yellow-Roadway CEO Bill Zollars said yesterday that the International Brotherhood of Teamsters is pleased with the proposed merger of LTL giants Yellow Corp. and Roadway Corp., the union said it will proceed cautiously in order to protect the interest of its members.

Should the sale of Roadway to Yellow procede, the potential impact on tens of thousands of Teamsters at Yellow, Roadway and other unionized carriers is the union’s primary concern, the union said in a statement.

In order to gain a greater understanding of the proposal, Teamsters general president Jim Hoffa and vp & asst. freight director Tyson Johnson will meet with Zollars and Roadway president James D. Staley today in Washington.
