FT. LAUDERDALE, FL – Denso will begin offering a compact, lightweight planetary gear reduction starter for Class 8 trucks this summer. The company is also introducing a pad-mount for its Class 8 brushless alternator.

Announced at the annual meeting of the Technology and Maintenance Council, the P5.0/8.0 starter will handle diesels with displacements between 8 and 24 liters. Weighing only 17.5 lbs., it is 33% lighter than competing planetary gear reduction starters, according to Denso.

Denso’s new brushless alternator model replaces its SAE J180 mount with a pad mount for Class 3 through 8 applications. A number of engine manufacturers have announced the move from J180 to pad mounts in an attempt to reduce vibration damage of alternators. The 12V/130A alternator also comes with a variety of terminal options.
