LAS VEGAS— Nextel Communications Inc. has teamed up with Prophesy Transportation Solutions Inc. to offer wireless dispatch systems at a “low cost” to the long-haul trucking market.
Through the partnership a GPS-enabled mobile resource management system will be created based on Prophesy DispatchSeries software over Nextel’s digital nationwide wireless network on Nextel handsets. Through this system drivers and dispatchers would be able to share and update their itinerary, paperless load and job status data, and provide real-time shipment tracking and route mapping.
“The combination of Prophesy and Nextel represents a technological breakthrough for the trucking industry, while also shattering the price barrier historically associated with ‘in-cab’ mobile communications solutions,” said William Ashburn, Prophesy vp.
