Attleboro, MA-based Sensata Technologies, created from the former Sensors & Controls division of Texas Instruments, plans to build rugged sensors for the trucking and heavy equipment market, specifically for industrial hydraulics and pneumatics, air suspension, tire pressure and inflation, braking, engine diagnostics and emissions systems.

Timothy O’Brien, Sensata’s specialty vehicle marketing manager said the money-saving value of such advanced sensor systems is very clear. For example, its remote tire pressure monitoring capability enables fleet managers to lengthen the life of their truck tires, he said.

“The rugged nature of these vehicles has been a barrier to wide-scale use of sensitive electronic devices, and manufacturers are skeptical of new-to-the-market suppliers that may not have a proven track record with harsh applications,” O’Brien added. “Our experience over the past 90-plus years providing reliable sensor technologies in some of the most extreme environments allows us to tackle these specific and demanding needs within the trucking and industrial equipment market.”
