The Texas Motor Transportation Association said that an annual statewide commercial truck safety inspection effort conducted this month reported a 44% percent reduction in the number of safety violations found from last year.

The Texas Department of Public Safety conducted a 72-hour commercial vehicle and driver safety inspection effort in early June, known as Roadcheck, which is sponsored on a national basis by the Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance. .

This year, there were 2,537 total inspections compared to 2,009 last year. In those inspections, a total of 4,856 safety violations were found compared to 6,994 last year – a decline of 44%. A total of 474 CVSA stickers were issued to trucks passing the inspections compared to 321 in 2000 – an increase of 48%. There were 344 issued for trailers compared to 228 last year – and increase of 51% The CVSA stickers are only issued to vehicles with no violations detected. .

“Any number of violations is too many,” said Bill Webb, President of the Texas Motor Transportation Association. “But the key is that we are making progress.” .
