NASHVILLE – After two years of negotiations, transportation refrigeration unit maker Carrier Transicold is making ExxonMobil’s synthetic Mobil Delvac 1 the standard engine oil for its products.
Delvac 1 will be placed in the engines of all of Carrier’s products, from truck and trailer to railroad cars and ship container reefers. Carrier says using Delvac 1 will boost the oil change interval from one to two years on its reefer units, reducing maintenance costs for its customers.
Carrier says its customers typically operate their reefer units 1,500 to 2,000 hours a year, so the oil change interval will be boosted to 4,000 hours or 2 years, whichever comes first. However, Carrier still recommends a filter change for its reefer engines every year.
Carrier will also use Delvac as the engine oil of choice for maintenance contracts handled by its factories. The company still recommends that its customers inspect their reefer units every 500 hours, especially to look for signs of belt wear.
