Trailer manufacturer Wabash National Corp. said today that it had its first profitable quarter in more than two years.

President & CEO William P. Greubel said that new trailer demand and production in the first quarter nearly doubled the levels of the same period last year, and increased approximately 10% on a sequential basis.

"The improvement is consistent with our view that industry demand continues to grow albeit at a slow pace," Gruebel said.

Net sales for the first quarter were $223 million compared to $162 million for the same period last year. Net income for the period was $1.4 million compared to a net loss of $14.6 million for the same period last year.
