Con-Way Transportation Services Inc. announced today that it is starting a new service called, Con-Way Deferred, which allows customers to save 20% on costs if they choose to use a slower intermodal service to move transcontinental shipments.
Shipments must move between the states of Washington, Oregon and California, and move to or from 37 eastern states, the District of Columbia or two eastern Canadian provinces.
President & CEO Gerald L. Detter said the company sees its entry into this price-sensitive market as an opportunity for significant growth.
"We cut two to four days off normal LTL transcontinental transit times, and that has attracted a major portion of the time-sensitive market," Detter said. "Market research shows us, however, that there's another large market that ships their transcontinental LTL freight based on cost.
