• Texas DOT to pursue Highway 360 toll extension

    Jan. 31, 2013

The North Texas Tollway Authority (NTTA) has reached a preliminary agreement with the Texas Dept. of Transportation (TXDOT)to proceed with an extension of State Highway 360 that would add several miles of tollway to the road, according to a Dallas Morning News report.

NTTA’s board has outlined the next steps for a proposed toll road that would connect Highway 360 to U.S. Highway 287 in southern Tarrant County. Highway 360 is one of the major roads that connects Interstates 20 and 30. South of I-20, the highway becomes a frontage road as it moves from Tarrant County to Ellis County. The toll road would be four lanes wide for most of corridor.

Frontage roads throughout the length of the project would remain free.

The preliminary agreement calls for TXDOT to finance, design and construct the project before turning the roadway over to NTTA. Toll revenues would then be used to reimburse TXDOT and for NTTA to maintain and operate the road going forward.

The Texas Transportation Commission will take up the memorandum of understanding at an upcoming meeting, and a final project agreement between NTTA and TXDOT must be approved by no later than the end of March.
