Bluetooth-blocking keeps drivers off cell phones, tablets

March 7, 2013

INDIANAPOLIS.  Telogis Inc.  has introduced a system that prevents drivers from unauthorized access to mobile devices of all types while their vehicle is in motion.  The Telogis Distracted Driving Solution enables fleets to enforce company and Federal bans on using mobile devices whether they are company-issued or personally owned, according to the company.

Using a Bluetoooth Trigger Unit from Cellcontrol, the system blocks unauthorized calls, emails, texts and Internet access on mobile phones, tablets or laptops running Android, iOS or Blackberry operating systems, the company said.  No other system blocks access to multiple devices at once, according to Telogis.

Pointing to the high percentage of accidents attributed to mobile device use and recent U.S. Dept. of Transportation rules restricting use of those devices by commercial vehicle drivers, Telogis VP of product management Mark Wallin said, “Telogis now has a simple cost-effective way to add another level of safety.”
