Fleet Owner wins two Neal Awards for editorial excellence

April 4, 2016

NEW YORK. Created 62 years ago to recognize the best in business-to-business journalism, the Jesse H. Neal Awards for 2016 named Fleet Owner winner in two categories – best instructional content and best commentary/blog – at its annual awards luncheon.  The magazine and its digital outlets were also named finalists in the best technical content and infographics categories.

The instructional content award honored Fleet Owner’s webinar and follow-up feature story on choosing the right alternative fuels.  Dir. of Editorial Content Wendy Leavitt was responsible for developing the webinar and writing the feature, which also included contributions from Managing Editor Brian Straight. The judges cited the package’s clear and engaging presentation of highly technical content in naming it the instructional content winner.

The best commentary award was given to “Editor’s Page” by Editor-in-chief Jim Mele. The second Neal Award for Fleet Owner’s editorial column in three years, the judges singled out Mele’s deep understanding of the truck market and straightforward approach to difficult issues.

Also honored as finalists in the 2016 Neal Awards were “Trucking by the Numbers 2015” in the infographics category and “Lubricants: The Next Oil Change” in the technical category. The lubricants entry describing the technical issues surrounding PC-11 included a feature story by American Trucker Editor Kevin Jones and a webinar developed by Wendy Leavitt.  The 2015 annual infographic report on trucking activities was put together by Jim Mele, Yodit Walker, Brian Straight and Elsa Pecoroni.

The Jesse H. Neal Awards were created by Connectiv in 1955 to recognize and reward editorial excellence in business publications.
