May 23, 2024
Thermo King continues to drive the transition to cleaner, more efficient cold chain operations with portfolio of electric, hybrid, and connected solutions on display for the commercial vehicle market.

LAS VEGAS—At ACT Expo, Thermo King demonstrated how the company continues to transform the way fleet owners and operators manage their fleets by offering smart, sustainable temperature control solutions throughout the cold chain.

“As a proven leader in temperature control solutions, Thermo King is committed to driving innovation and sustainability in the industry,” said Chris Tanaka, vice president of product management for Thermo King Americas. “By offering solutions that meet the diverse needs of our customers at every stage of their sustainability journeys, we aim to transform fleet operations. We invite ACT Expo attendees to stop by and learn how our products can help them transition to electric, digitally enabled solutions, now or in the future.”

Thermo King's offerings that minimize environmental impact range from high-efficiency and low-emissions diesel options to all-electric transport refrigeration units and auxiliary power units.

Following the success of electric, truck-mounted TRUs including the e200, e300, and e1000, the evolve family of products continues to grow with the testing of single- and multi-temp hybrid-electric refrigerated trailers. Preliminary trials run over the course of 2,000 hours and 40,000 miles with over 400 deliveries demonstrate significant progress in reducing carbon emissions and fuel consumption, with results indicating that the use of the TRUs saved approximately 1,300 gallons of fuel and eliminated over 34,000 pounds of CO2 emissions.

  • e1000: all-electric TRU for Class 5-7 trucks
  • TriPac Envidia: all-electric APU with industry-leading power at 8,000 British Thermal Units per hour
  • Precedent S-750i: hybrid diesel-electric TRU for trailers
  • TracKing telematics: real-time data and insights to optimize performance and enhance efficiency, now standard on the new Thermo King trailer, large truck, and diesel APU units
  • TracKing Pro telematics: premium digital offering for Thermo King rail, trailer, and large truck units to help customers exceed their operational and decarbonization goals

Additionally, Thermo King offered a glimpse into two upcoming multi-temp product launches. These included the e1000M, a multi-temp, all-electric TRU for Class 5-7 trucks slated for launch later this year, and the Precedent S-750M, a hybrid-electric TRU that will allow for temperature-controlled trailers to haul multi-temp loads, slated to launch in 2025.

Preeti Subramanian, senior truck product manager for Thermo King, was also featured on a panel called “Thinking Outside the Cab: Innovative Ways to Lower Emissions—eTRU Technology and Real-World Applications.” Subramanian highlighted progress toward truck reefer decarbonization through insights from e1000 customer field trials.
