Isuzu Motors recently broke ground on a new production facility in South Carolina. The state's governor, the Japanese ambassador to the United States, state officials, and Isuzu executives from both Japan and North America attended the event.

Once complete, the facility will be the company's most high-tech facility in the world. A 1,000,000-sq.-ft. building currently rests on the 200-plus-acre site, which Isuzu will modify to meet production requirements. The investment is estimated to total $280 million and bring more than 700 jobs to the area.

Isuzu chose South Carolina because of its tax benefits, proximity to a port, and a local, skilled talent pool.

“Together we will create jobs, drive innovation, and contribute to the future of mobility and this community,” Noboro Murakami, Isuzu North America chairman and CEO, said at the grounbreaking ceremony.
