Here are the headlines from this week in trucking as of July 2:

The Illinois Tollway is planning a 30% increase in toll rates

The Illinois Tollway is proposing a rate increase on commercial vehicle tolls within its jurisdiction. The authority’s latest proposed capital program to improve traffic and road conditions would increase commercial toll rates by 30%, beginning in 2027.

For example, at the I-290 toll plaza, a large commercial truck using I-PASS in the daytime would see its rate jump from $3.20 to $4.15. That same setup at the Dixon toll plaza on I-88 would jump from $20.10 to $26.15.

FedEx is selling its 3PL arm for $1.4 billion

A foreign company has acquired FedEx’s third-party logistics arm, called FedEx Supply Chain. CMA CGM Group, a French logistics company, acquired FedEx Supply Chain for $1.4 billion. The acquisition will nearly triple the size of the French company’s North American subsidiary CEVA Logistics. The acquisition is expected to close later in 2026. The acquisition comes only one month after FedEx Freight completed its spinoff.

Cargo thieves stole $1.7 million in condoms and lubricant

What happens when the rubber meets the road? Or, when rubbers meet the road? According to Cybernews, a shipment of roughly 100,000 condoms and lubricant bottles was scheduled to travel from Massachusetts to a Walmart distribution center in Pennsylvania, but thieves impersonated the original carrier’s email address and brokered the load to a third-party carrier, directing it to reroute to a Bronx warehouse. Ironic, that the shipment’s goods were designed to prevent loads from going where they’re not supposed to. With plenty of lubricant on hand, the thieves managed to slip by undetected.

In fuel this week, diesel fell 16 cents

The national average on-highway diesel price fell to $4.67 per gallon, according to the Energy Information Administration (EIA), or to $4.84 according to the latest data from AAA.
