Spot truckload rates surge during International Roadcheck across dry van, reefer, flatbed

Dry van, reefer, and flatbed spot rates rose significantly during International Roadcheck, with refrigerated freight seeing the largest weekly jump.

Key takeaways

  • Dry van spot rates posted near-record weekly gains during Roadcheck as volumes surged and capacity tightened.
  • Refrigerated freight saw its largest weekly rate increase on record, driven by reduced capacity during International Roadcheck enforcement.
  • Flatbed spot rates rose more modestly, even as volumes declined.

Last week, all spot rates rose sharply during International Roadcheck, according to weekly reports from FTR Transportation Intelligence and DAT Freight & Analytics.

According to FTR, “the jump in dry van spot rates fell just short of a record weekly increase while flatbed spot rates rose for a 20th straight week to a record level. Dry van and refrigerated rates remain well below their all-time highs at the end of 2021.”
