AB Volvo, the Swedish parent of both Volvo Trucks North America and Mack Trucks Inc., said deliveries of the commercial trucks built around the world by the various marques in its Volvo Group bounced up big this January across the board.

Worldwide, total deliveries from the Volvo Group’s truck operations – which also includes Renault Trucks, UD Trucks and Eicher – amounted to 15,277 vehicles last month. That is an increase of 62% compared to January 2010 numbers, the company noted.

In North America, deliveries totaled 2,587 units in January-- up 83% over the same month in 2010 And in Europe, truck deliveries amounted to 2,805 units-- up 106% compared to January last year.

In terms of brands, Volvo Trucks delivered 1,376 units last month worldwide – a 152% increase over January 2010 . Mack deliveries reached 1,276 vehicles in January, up 43% compared to the same month last year.

The Volvo Group noted in a news release that truck demand, in general, continues on an upward trend, largely spurred by the need to replace the aging population of heavy-duty vehicles.

However, the company said a notable exception is the construction segment of the truck market. While there are some indications of improvement in the construction environment as a whole, underutilization of the existing fleet of dumps and mixers is having a dampening effect on new truck sales in this area, according to Volvo.
