Schneider National is expanding its new Mexican intermodal service, called Mexico Express, to deliver greater capacity and faster freight service between the U.S. eastern seaboard and Mexico. Mexico Express opened in June.

Thanks to a contract with Kansas City Southern, Kansas City Southern de México and Norfolk Southern, Schneider said freight customers gain priority access to up to 120 loads per day north and south of the border. That includes a five-day ramp schedule to speed up delivery times to Mexico City; San Luis Potosí; Guadalajara, Jalisco; the Bajio region (including Guanajuato and Querétaro); and Monterrey, Nuevo León, Mexico’s major industrial center.

The key to Mexico Express, said Bill Matheson, president of intermodal at Schneider, is that freight gets pre-cleared at the ramp prior to departure, so customers avoid border-crossing delays in Laredo, TX, and can move freight into Mexico more quickly.

“Mexico Express answers this market’s need for additional capacity and more streamlined cross-border shipments,” he said. “Now our customers have more options to maximize their supply chain, as well as the reliability of a five-day ramp schedule and greater freight security.”
