Hydraulic liftgate manufacturer Waltco Truck Equipment Co. has shifted manufacturing work from its Gardena, CA., plant to Tallmadge, OH.

The Gardena facility will continue to house warehousing activities, but will no longer provide production support. About 40 employees, both salaried and hourly, are affected. The company is negotiating severance packages with the union representing the employees.

Waltco recently invested in several new technologies at the Tallmadge plant, which employs about 250 people. Among the changes are upgrades in robotic fabrication, powder coating technology, CNC lathes, vertical CNC machining centers and plasma cutting capabilities. Waltco’s engineering group is also located in Tallmadge.
