‘World’s Largest Truckstop’ to grow even larger

Sept. 21, 2012

Iowa 80 Truckstop, touted as the “World’s Largest Truckstop,” will soon be even larger. Iowa 80 is in the process of adding 110 more truck parking spaces, which will bring the stop’s total parking capacity to over 900.

Dirt work has already begun on the expansion project, which is scheduled to be completed in the spring.

“We want to make sure that our customers have plenty of safe, well-lit truck parking spaces,” said Delia Moon Meier.  “It’s important they know we will always have a space for them.”

With the completion of its $4 million expansion project in 1994, Iowa 80 TA Truckstop widened the gap as the largest truck stop in the world. The truck stop boasts the Iowa 80 Kitchen, a 300-seat restaurant with a 50-ft. salad bar, one-of-a-kind truckers warehouse store, 24 private showers, 60-seat Dolby surround sound movie theater, a driver’s den, two game rooms, an embroidery center, vinyl graphics shop, barber, dentist, TA service center, Truckomat truck wash, CAT Scale, state-of-the-art fuel center, Wendy’s and Dairy Queen in the food court and a Blimpie located in the fuel center. The stop currently has parking for 800 tractor-trailers, 250 cars and 20 buses.

The expanded truck parking lot will be north of the truck stop near the Iowa 80 Trucking Museum and Iowa 80 Group/CAT Scale Headquarters Office.
