U.S. Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy unveiled the app last month in partnership with General Motors and Here Technologies.
“This innovative app will help families map out their routes, uncover hidden gems, and connect with the rich tapestry of our proud history—all from the driver’s seat,” Duffy said. “Start your engines, America!”
Having the app is like having “a park ranger, history buff, and foodie friend in the passenger seat,” a release stated. The app houses site information for more than 250 destinations all across America—with at least one destination in each state—from Acadia National Park in Maine to the USS Midway Museum in San Diego. It features museums, like the Country Music Hall of Fame in Nashville, as well as natural wonders like the Grand Canyon. The app allows users to segment the destinations by theme and collect digital stamps along the way, the release stated.
“At GM, we’re proud to be part of the American story—building world-class vehicles, supporting good jobs, and helping people explore our beautiful country,” Mary Barra, GM CEO, said. “With Explore250, we’re making the journey more convenient and enjoyable so families can focus on making memories on the road.”
The official organization tasked with coordinating America’s 250th birthday celebration efforts, America250, houses more information on its website. Additional information can be found on The Great American Road Trip website, which outlines all the destinations in one place, segmented by region.
