AltLINE unveils analysis of U.S. truck stops and rest areas to highlight top-rated locations for drivers

Nearly 100,000 Google Maps reviews were analyzed to identify the best and worst rest stops and truck stops across the country.

AltLINE recently announced the results of a nationwide analysis of truck stops and rest areas, ranking locations based on Google Maps reviews. The company, which provides financial solutions for freight businesses, collected data from nearly 100,000 stops to identify trends in quality and customer service.

The analysis found that Vermont leads the nation with the highest average rest stop rating at 4.5 stars, followed by Hawaii, Iowa, Alaska, and New Hampshire. New Jersey, Colorado, and Massachusetts had the lowest average ratings, all below 4.0.

Customer service was consistently rated lower than overall scores across all states. Delaware and Florida had the largest drop in service-related reviews, while Massachusetts, West Virginia, and South Dakota maintained service ratings consistent with overall stop quality.

AltLINE also identified regional hot spots by analyzing rest stop concentrations in 1,770 km² hexagons. Waynesville, North Carolina, achieved the highest average rating of 4.7 from over 7,000 reviews, while Boulder, Colorado, ranked the lowest with a 3.0 average. Glenwood Springs, Colorado, stood out as a second hot spot with a 4.6 rating.

Top-rated stops on the nation’s busiest freight routes include:

I-80 Salt Flats Rest Area, Utah: 4.6 average rating, praised for its landscape and facilities
I-10 Official Florida Welcome Center: 4.7 rating, noted for cleanliness and free orange juice
I-95 Georgia Welcome Center: 4.6 rating, recognized for safety and its small museum-like interior

Analysis of the Big Four corporate-operated stops revealed mixed experiences. Petro averaged 3.88, with 34% of locations rated above the national average. TravelCenters of America averaged 3.66, with only 13% above the national average.
