A new color brochure describes Exxon's SmartLube Optimized Service Interval (OSI) Program, designed to outline the value and risks of extending service intervals of engine oils in heavy-duty truck fleet operations. The SmartLube program involves a three-phase timeline. In Phase 1, the fleet equipment manager, or fleet operations manager, completes a fleet questionnaire and engine equipment log. This helps SmartLube program coordinators analyze a fleet's operations and viability of extended-service intervals.

After completion of the questionnaire, SmartLube coordinators review the fleet's operating history and historical oil analysis data, resolve questions, and help determine if the fleet is a candidate for extended-service intervals.

If the fleet is endorsed for continued review, a SmartLube representative visits the fleet for completion of Phase 2. Here, Exxon technical personnel review maintenance practices and quality controls and discuss oil analysis programs. The fleet then completes an engine equipment log provided by Exxon.

Phase 3 involves final review of fleet issues. SmartLube representatives provide a cost-benefit review, identify risks and tradeoffs, and communicate a plan to test optimized oil drain intervals. Exxon issues a SmartLube warranty certificate to fleets that comply with specified service intervals, and maintain oil quality within condemning limits defined by the truck engine OEM.
