Facility expansion a natural step for United

United Natural Foods Inc plans to open a new distribution facility in Greenwood IN. The company has received approval from local planning and zoning officials to expand the new facility from 277,000 to 308,000 square feet.

The center is scheduled to begin operations in July 2005 and will serve as a distribution hub for Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, and other Midwest states. United Natural Foods currently has 15 distribution centers throughout the United States.

Steven Townsend, chairman and chief executive officer, said, “We are pleased to note that this facility is expected to create more then 250 jobs over the next three years.” The company is partnering with the city and state to begin hiring in February 2005.
