Americold, provider of temperature-controlled warehousing and logistics to the food industry, recently chose Cold Chain LLC of Boise ID to complete a retrofit of freezer door systems at its Nampa ID facility.

In addition to the significant energy savings that Americold expects to gain from Cold Chain’s advanced door systems, Idaho Power provided a sizeable incentive through its Custom Efficiency program. This project is expected to save Americold almost 1.32 million kilowatt-hours annually, and the firm will recoup all expenses in less than 2.5 years.

“This project has been a win-win for both Americold and Idaho Power,” said Mike Shaughnessy, president of Cold Chain LLC. “Americold gets state-of-the-art, high-speed, automatic-opening-and-closing freezer doors, which lower overall cost of operations; and Idaho Power saves energy that it can use for other customers or towards savings goals.”

This is the second project that Americold has chosen to work with Cold Chain LLC. The first was a project at Americold’s Ontario OR facility, which also falls under Idaho Power Company’s service territory and similarly qualified for the Idaho Power Custom Incentive Program.

“After the project, our electric savings are much better than we expected” said Neal Evans, Americold’s facility service manager.

Cold Chain LLC manufactures durable, lightweight freezer door systems, dock doors systems, and cold transport systems that have been shown to generate consistent savings from reduced energy use and maintenance expense, enhanced operator satisfaction, and ease of use. Cold Chain’s systems provide a very high return on investment; in many cases the annual savings are equal to the net cost of the system. The systems are often eligible for utility rebates or incentives.
