Public refrigerated warehouse company VersaCold recently celebrated the opening of its newest distribution center at the Port of Tacoma WA with a barbecue lunch and ribbon-cutting ceremony.

More than 180 business partners, associates, customers, employees, port officials, and local government attended the event. Tacoma Mayor Marilyn Strickland and Don Johnson, president of the Port of Tacoma Commission, gave speeches offering their support and thanks to VersaCold as a new member of the business community.

Brent Sugden, chief executive officer of VersaCold, congratulated general manager Tony Caetano and his team for a successful opening and thanked them for their hard work. The warehouse unofficially opened in July, when it started receiving product.

Caetano commended his team and thanked the Modesto CA employees for moving up the coast to Tacoma with him. He also gave a special thanks to Fisher & Sons, which built the facility. “Without you none of this would have been possible,“ said Caetano.

With its proprietary POWER II warehouse management system, and modern radio frequency and voice-pick technologies, VersaCold offers logistics services to seafood, agriculture, and food manufacturing companies throughout the port and surrounding areas. The 196,600-square-foot newly built, energy-efficient refrigerated warehouse serves one of the largest retailers in the area, Grocery Outlet, which moved from Modesto. VersaCold’s facility is proving so productive that an 85,000-sq-ft expansion is in the works for the near future with the potential addition of rail service. VersaCold’s Tacoma location has brought 65 jobs to the area, which could grow to 100 with the expansion.

VersaCold provides temperature-controlled warehousing, distribution, and fully integrated logistics services, with 123 facilities in the United States, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, and Argentina. Its operations provide global refrigerated storage capacity of approximately 586 million cubic feet to food producers, processors, and wholesale and retail distributors. VersaCold also provides dedicated third-party logistics systems to grocery retailers in North America through its Atlas Logistics division.
