Mattingly Cold Storage commissioned Tippmann Innovation (Ti) to conduct freezing and tempering tests with Ti’s patented QF+ In-Rack Freezing System recently.

The purpose of the tests was to evaluate freezing and tempering times against traditional blast freezing and tempering methods. Faced with the challenge of a 72-hour freeze time for pork, Mattingly hoped to reach temperatures of 0° F in 48 hours or less while operating a –10° F freezer.

Data from the Ti test demonstrated that the QF+ system allowed Mattingly to reach desired freezing and tempering goals and increase product turn rates. Due to the remarkably effective test results, Mattingly added QF+ to its Zanesville OH facility.

A 70-year-old family-owned warehousing company, Mattingly provides multi-temperature range storage solutions for customers including frozen, refrigerated and dry warehousing space. For companies like Mattingly, having the fastest, most energy-efficient freezing methods allows them to attract more customers and guarantee quality products.

“We are extremely happy with our decision to install the QF+ as our very first blast freezer,” said Angie Schmidt, executive vice president, Mattingly. “Tippmann Innovation and their staff were consummate professionals that ensured that the freezer was installed in a timely and efficient manner. If we ever add a second blast, we know who we are using.”

Ti provides a full suite of cold storage construction services, including master site planning and operations guidance. Its technologies include the patented QF+ In-Rack freezing and thawing system, coupled with the T2 spacer. The company has offices in Indiana, Illinois and Florida.
