Trucking freight broker Total Quality Logistics (TQL) has reached $1 billion in sales for 2011, marking the first time the 14-year-old company has hit the billion-dollar milestone in a single calendar year.
In achieving the billion-dollar breakthrough, TQL has nearly tripled its sales in the past five years while freight movements nationwide remained flat. TQL has moved into third place on the list of the nation’s largest freight brokerage firms based on revenue. The first- and second-largest firms have been in business for 103 and 48 years, respectively.
“We look forward to additional growth in 2012 as more shippers and carriers become aware of our industry-leading service and our capacity to reliably handle a wide variety of load types,” said Kerry Byrne, TQL executive vice-president.
The Cincinnati OH-based company connects consumer product and industrial goods shippers with truck operators who transport their freight to market destinations. Its 1,600-member workforce identifies the right trucks for particular freight loads, negotiates rates, and ensures on-time delivery.
TQL added 585 new jobs in 2011. Continued expansion of both the workforce and total number of satellite locations, which currently stands at 10, is planned as TQL serves an increasingly larger share of the full truckload domestic market. The company expects to create new job opportunities for an additional 1,000 employees over the next three years.
In 2011, TQL opened satellite offices in 2011 in Dayton and Columbus OH, Louisville and Lexington KY, Denver CO, and Indianapolis IN. Other satellite offices are in Charleston SC, Charlotte NC, Chicago IL, Tampa FL, and Cleveland OH.
