Maverick Transportation held a grand opening ceremony recently, introducing a state-of-the-art driver training facility that will help train and develop America’s next generation of professional truck drivers.
“We are proud to make a substantial investment in our community, our employees, our veterans, and in the safety of America’s roadways with our new driver training facility,” said Steve Williams, Maverick’s chairman and chief executive officer, at the grand opening ceremony of the new $4 million facility. “We want this to be a career of choice, not of last resort. We are committed to attracting, training, and retaining the industry’s safest and most professional drivers.”
Arkansas Gov Mike Beebe was on hand for the grand opening and praised both Williams and Maverick, saying they “are the best I have ever seen at what they do.”
Maverick’s new training facility comes on the heels of the announcement of its recent partnership with the US Chamber of Commerce’s Hiring our Heroes’ program, in which the firm has committed to focus on hiring veterans.
“We are delighted that Maverick Transportation has committed to hiring 1,000 veterans over the next two years,” said Eric Eversole, executive director of Hiring Our Heroes.
“A driving career at Maverick is a perfect fit for many military men and women,” said Brad Vaughn, Maverick’s director of recruiting. “The high level of dedication and discipline it takes to serve in the Armed Forces transfers over well to what we call doing things ‘The Maverick Way.’ The Maverick Way includes highly structured training, continuously striving for excellence in all we do, and an unwavering emphasis on quality and safety.”
Hiring Our Heroes launched in March 2011 as a nationwide initiative to help veterans and military spouses find meaningful employment. Working with the US Chamber of Commerce’s network of state and local chambers and other strategic partners from the public, private, and non-profit sectors, the goal is to create a movement across America in hundreds of communities where veterans and military families return every day. To date, Hiring Our Heroes has inspired more than 1,500 businesses of all sizes to hire 236,000 veterans, transitioning service members and military spouses.
Maverick, founded in 1980 and based in Little Rock AR, operates more than 1,400 units. It provides over-the-road and dedicated service to the temperature-controlled, flatbed, and glass transportation markets throughout North America.
