In early October, employees at Choptank Transport came up with a new idea to raise money as part of October as Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Inspired by area sales manager Matt MacCoy, logistics coordinator Julius Horton and logistics team manager Tim Tedesco, Choptank Transport challenged Preston Automotive Group to a Saving Second Base Softball Tournament in Hurlock MD.

“Everyone has a family member or a friend that has battled or lost someone to breast cancer,” said Steve Covey, executive vice-president at Choptank. “Aligning the two local businesses with such an important cause is a win-win.”

Three internal games were played by Choptank employees to create an all-star team to play the opponent. The final tournament was played at the Hurlock ballpark with fans from both teams cheering on the players. Although Choptank was ahead early in the game, Preston Automotive ended up winning.

All participants had a good time, but more importantly, each company raised $2,350 toward the fight against breast cancer, totaling $4,700.

David Wilson Jr, vice-president of Preston Automotive Group, said, “It was a fun way to raise money and bring more awareness to a cause that is so close to our heart and for our two outstanding teams, Choptank Transport and Preston Automotive Group, to work together.”
