Spireon will host a free educational webinar on the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA), set for Thursday, March 16 at 2 pm EDT.

Entitled “The FSMA: From A to Z,” the webinar will feature Jon Samson, executive director, Agricultural & Food Transporters Conference, American Trucking Associations (ATA); Kevin Boydstun, director of operations, Sharp Transportation; and Roni Taylor, vice-president of industry relations at Spireon. Panelists will discuss the new federal regulation and its impact on fleet operations.

The FDA describes the FSMA as the most sweeping reform of food safety laws in more than 70 years. This regulation aims to ensure the US food supply is safe by shifting the focus from responding to contamination to preventing it. To avoid placing an unnecessary burden on farms growing fresh produce and facilities processing food, new FSMA guidelines require that fleets transporting these food products follow stringent safety regulations.

This webinar will help carriers that transport food understand the scope and implications of the new provisions and ensure compliance.

Samson joined the ATA in 2011. As executive director of its AFTC, he leads efforts to increase safety, security, profitability and efficiency of transporters of agricultural commodities, food, forest products and natural resources. As the webinar’s headline speaker, he will address legislative perspective on the FSMA.

Boydstun will offer a fleet perspective on the regulation, based on his experience at Sharp, a contract carrier licensed in 48 states and in business for more than 20 years.

Taylor will explain how technology systems can help fleets ensure compliance with the FSMA.
