Paccar has introduced the Paccar MX engine to be installed in Kenworth and Peterbilt trucks in summer 2010. The Paccar MX engine is designed to deliver performance, reliability, and fuel efficiency to Kenworth and Peterbilt customers worldwide.

Jim Cardillo, Paccar president, said, “Over 125,000 Paccar MX engines are successfully operating in DAF trucks globally. The Paccar MX is designed to meet the Environmental Protection Agency’s 2010 emissions regulations and has accumulated over 50 million test miles in rigorous and severe conditions in North America.”

The MX engine is available with a range of 380-485 hp and torque outputs up to 1,750 lb-ft.

Craig Brewster, Paccar assistant vice-president, said, “In addition to performance excellence, Paccar pioneered the design and manufacture of high-strength compacted graphite iron (CGI) used in the MX engine block and cylinder head. This premium material is more durable and lighter than conventional gray iron resulting in superior power-to-weight performance. The electronically controlled high-pressure fuel injection system delivers excellent fuel economy and assists in achieving the low emissions required by the EPA. The engine’s block design and rear gear train contributes to significantly lower in-cab noise levels resulting in a more comfortable driver environment. The integral engine brake provides powerful performance across a broad range of engine rpms.”

The MX engine uses Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) in combination with exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) to meet the EPA 2010 diesel engine emissions regulations.

“Paccar’s world-class vehicles have successfully operated Euro 4- and Euro 5-certified SCR emission systems for several years,” said Dan Sobic, Paccar executive vice-president.

Kenworth, Peterbilt, and DAF dealers provide parts and service support for the MX engine at more than 1,900 service locations. The dealerships have certified MX trained technicians and a complete inventory of service parts. Paccar Call Centers provides technical support 24/7, 365 days a year.
