Utility Trailer Manufacturing Company, manufacturer of refrigerated trailers, dry freight vans, flatbeds and Tautliner curtainside trailers, has exceeded another production milestone by manufacturing more than 250,000 refrigerated trailers in Utah.

The company’s first Clearfield UT plant at Freeport Center opened in 1965 and manufactured the 2000R reefer as well as other trailer products.

“I have been with the Clearfield plant for nearly 40 years, and I know that achieving this success requires a team effort,” said Todd Smith, Utility’s Clearfield plant manager. “With increasing demand and moving to two shifts, this achievement was attained while being recognized both for being the safest trailer manufacturing plant in the industry by Truck Trailer Manufacturers Association (TTMA) and building the highest quality reefer in the world.”

The 250,000th reefer was purchased by Navajo Express, a family-owned-and-operated trucking company based out of Denver CO.

“It is an honor to have Navajo be the recipient of this trailer,” said Smith. “The Digby family has been leaders and innovators in the transportation industry for over 70 years.”

The 250,000th reefer was presented March 16 to Don Digby Jr.

Founded in 1914, Utility operates five trailer manufacturing facilities across the United States. Its 3000R and 3000R multi-temp refrigerated trailers are manufactured at the Marion VA and Clearfield plants. The 4000D-X Composite series and 4000D dry vans are manufactured at the Glade Spring VA and Paragould AR plants. The 4000A, 4000AE, 4000S and dropdeck flatbeds as well as the Tautliner are all manufactured at the Enterprise AL facility.
