German trailer manufacturer Krone says Grimsby, England-based Hedges Distribution recently selected two Krone Cool Liner refrigerated trailers for handling its temperature-controlled logistics contracts.

Manufactured in Lubtheen, Germany, the Cool Liners’ body strength lies mainly in the Duoplex Steel outer skins and heavy-duty aluminium floor, Krone said. Plus, for extra rigidity, the chassis is constructed using double-T, longitudinal beams and a Z-profile rear traverse section with diagonal reinforcements.

“We had previously rented Krone trailers and noticed that the construction was of a higher quality than similar units on the market,” said Ciaron Reynolds, Hedges' distribution managing director. “And this has proved ideal for the hard-working retail and groupage work which we undertake throughout the UK. Also, our drivers provided a very positive feedback.”

Protection when docking at loading bays is provided by a combination of delta-shaped rubber buffers fitted across the rear frame, and steel roll-compression impact buffers mounted on either side, Krone claimed.

For added security, the rear doors feature a ‘container-type‘ design, while the loading security certificate complies with European standard, EN 12642 Code XL. Also, with low-maintenance and longevity in mind, Hedges specified drum brakes. The running gear comes with Krone’s 6-year unlimited warranty.

“We distribute a wide range of frozen and chilled goods throughout the UK,” Ciaron said. “And the well-insulated, ATP-rated Cool Liner with dual evaporators helps to guarantee set temperatures at all times.

“It’s a well-built trailer from which we expect low cost of ownership over the long term.”
