Thermo King adds ultra-low-emission TRU for rail, intermodal applications
Thermo King recently introduced the Advancer S-DRC slimline unit for temperature-controlled cargo rail and intermodal applications.
Utilizing the S-Series engine, the S-DRC replaces the SLXi-DRC as one of the first slimline units in North America that meets current CARB Ultra-Low Emission Transport Refrigeration Unit (ULETRU) emissions standards, making it compliant in all 50 states, Thermo King reported.
“Thermo King has designed custom rail solutions for our customers since 1948,” Sam Doerr, Thermo King’s trailer portfolio leader, said in a news release. “The Advancer S-DRC is another example of Thermo King’s commitment to delivering smart, sustainable temperature-control solutions that help customers transition fleets to reduce their environmental impact and be compliant with the changing regulations in California.”
The enhanced operational efficiencies of the Advancer S-DRC not only allow customers to keep sustainability at the forefront of their business but also help lower their total cost of ownership. This is accomplished through:
- 10% improved fuel efficiency over the previous generation
- Next-generation control system that enables precise temperature management
- A slimline profile that allows a 15-pallet capacity and enables a smooth transition to over-the-road, simplifying cross-docking operations
- Two ThermoLite solar panels as standard
- Integrated shore power
Every Advancer S-DRC unit also comes equipped with TracKing telematics to deliver the data customers need, with no service charge for the first 24 months of ownership, Thermo King said. Telematics help fleet owners monitor temperature, offers rapid alarm detection and security alerts when the doors are opened, and helps detect fuel loss. Additionally, it provides access to predictive analytics and performance dashboards.
As the company’s most fuel-efficient slimline rail unit available, the Advancer S-DRC aligns with customers’ goals to transition to more sustainable solutions for their fleets and supports Thermo King’s commitment to reducing carbon emissions and advancing Trane Technologies’ 2030 Sustainability Commitments.
“Our portfolio has expanded significantly in the last year, and Thermo King is committed to having a low- or zero-emission solution in every segment of cold chain transportation,” said Chris Tanaka, vice president of product management for Thermo King Americas. “Today’s announcement is one of the ways we are accelerating solutions that help decarbonize the cold chain and support our customers who need solutions that meet regulations and their lower-emission targets.”
