New order of integrated refrigerated containers from Maersk includes Star Cool controlled atmosphere technology, which helps protect sensitive commodities during transportation.
A “portion” of the new units will feature Star Cool CA (controlled atmosphere), the companies reported. The order also includes MCI’s Sekstant reefer monitoring, which provides real-time monitoring and control of the reefer containers and unique OEM features, enhancing operational efficiency and providing critical data for optimizing supply chain logistics.
“We are excited to further strengthen our partnership with MCI through this investment in Star Cool,” Frederick Urbina, Seaboard Marine director of fleet operations, said in a news release. “These technologies enhance our operational efficiency and align with our sustainability initiatives by reducing our environmental footprint. We look forward to leveraging these advancements to benefit our customers.”
Maersk Container Industry
Seaboard Marine has been a Star Cool customer since 2008, when the first tests of the reefer machines demonstrated up to 50% energy savings compared to its existing fleet, MCI said. The success of the Star Cool CA system in transporting sensitive commodities like asparagus and blueberries helped strengthen the relationship.
Star Cool CA technology extends the transportation window for perishable goods, which helps reduce waste and carbon emissions, while ensuring consumers in the Western hemisphere enjoy high-quality produce.
