CVSA schedules Brake Safety Week for August 23–29 to improve brake compliance
Key takeaways
- CVSA Brake Safety Week runs August 23–29 with roadside inspections across the U.S., Canada, and Mexico.
- Inspectors will focus on brake drums and rotors, key components impacting stopping power and road safety.
- Fleets should prioritize pre-trip brake checks to avoid out-of-service violations during enforcement week.
The Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance (CVSA) revealed Brake Safety Week will take place August 23–29 to focus on commercial motor vehicle brake safety across North America. The alliance, which oversees coordinated roadside safety programs in Canada, Mexico, and the U.S., said trained inspectors will conduct routine inspections focused on brake systems and components.
Inspectors will pay particular attention to drums and rotors during this year’s brake-safety focus. Brake drum and rotor issues can affect braking efficiency and may result in debris dislodging from vehicles, potentially causing damage or injuries.
Vehicles found with brake-related out-of-service violations, or any other out-of-service violations, will be removed from service until corrected.
In addition to inspections, Brake Safety Week also emphasizes education and awareness. Inspectors and officials will engage with drivers, motor carriers, and mechanics to highlight the importance of proactive vehicle maintenance in reducing crashes and improving safety outcomes.
Motor carriers and drivers are encouraged to complete pre- and post-trip inspections to ensure all brake components are operating properly before vehicles are in service.
