Utility Trailer Manufacturing Co. revealed that its Glade Spring, Va.-based dry van manufacturing plant has received the Southwest Virginia Alliance for Manufacturing (SVAM) Excellence in Safety Award.

This is the second time the Glade Spring plant has been recognized by SVAM – the first award was given in 2014 for Manufacturer of the Year. The Excellence in Safety Award highlights a manufacturer that goes beyond regulatory requirements to ensure a safe workplace for their employees.

“We are very proud to receive this recognition from SVAM. We have implemented a safety program that all of our plant team members participate in. We hold monthly safety meetings, offer safety training, conduct effective accident investigations and enforce many other safety measures. Maintaining a safe workplace is a top priority for us,” said Sam Cassell, plant manager for Glade Spring.

Southwest Virginia Alliance for Manufacturing is a non-profit organization focused on supporting and strengthening manufacturers in the region. SVAM’s main goal is to improve the image of manufacturing and increase the number of individuals pursuing careers in manufacturing.

“We are incredibly grateful for the partnership we have with Utility Trailer Manufacturing Co. in Glade Spring,” stated Lennie Gail Mitcham, executive director of SVAM. “I have worked with several employees at the Glade Spring plant and every person has been knowledgeable and supportive of the mission of SVAM.”
