Briefs: Solera enhances Omnitracs One; joins Next-Gen Trucking

May 27, 2022
Omnitracs upgrades app integrations and now offers last-mile fleets ‘what-if’ routing models. SmartDrive offers a new video safety product for small fleets. Solera also uses its Outlook 2022 conference to promote trucking’s newest trade organization.

NEW ORLEANS—Solera rolled out updates to its Omnitracs platform and a new SmartDrive solution for smaller fleets during the transportation technology provider’s first user conference. The company also backed the emerging Next Generation in Trucking Association, which is working to bolster driving and technician workforces.

Omnitracs One upgrades include integrations with third-party commercial trucking apps for navigation, transportation management systems (TMS), and managed mobility services, which Solera said would improve operational efficiencies and data-driven insights. Omnitracs also unveiled a new routing product for enterprise fleets.

The SmartDrive Protect product is a video-based safety solution designed for smaller fleets. The technology offers accident exoneration, safe-driving coaching, and gamification to the company.

Solera, which describes itself as a “vehicle lifestyle management” company with presence in 100 countries, acquired Omnitracs and its SmartDrive products in 2021. That also included rebranding Omnitracs’ annual user conference as Solera Outlook 2022. It used the three-day event here at the Hyatt Regency New Orleans to show off its new portfolio of fleet technology solutions. Those also include the recent Spireon and eDriving acquisitions to go with longtime Solera brand SuperVision

Omnitracs One updates

The Omnitracs One updates are designed for fleet and driver customizations with the many other applications designed for drivers, office workers, and fleet managers. Omnitracs One integrates these tools into a singular platform, which the company said would reduce new software needs.

Solera highlighted the following Omnitracs One upgrades:

  • Unlimited third-party mobile and web app integration.
  • Secure, Single Sign-On login to access Omnitracs One and SuperVision products.
    • Improved navigation data via integrations with both Trimble Co-Pilot powered by Trimble Maps and Verizon Connect Navigation.
      • Faster migration of data to get online quickly, with the addition of Trimble FleetConneX.
        • Enhanced managed mobility services via managed mobile device management integrations.
          • Improved location intelligence with the addition of Solera’s new data product, Solera Fleet Solutions Location Intelligence.

The new Omnitracs One Route Modeling solution provides large enterprise, last-mile fleets with “what-if routing scenarios” that Solera said would not affect operational production routes already in place. Omnitracs said the modeling would give drivers and dispatchers route creation plans in a more cost-efficient manner. Its new features include:

            • Real-time feedback on proposed route changes via an enhanced route scorecard.
            • Streamlined communication reduces thousands of hours per year in labor.
              • Enhanced collaboration at any time, offering the ability to work through simulated routes either before or after a route is performed.
                • Increased accessibility via a light web-based application that fleets already use daily.

                  SmartDrive Protect

The SmartDrive Protect solution is aimed at small fleets looking for video-safety protection to go with driver coaching technology. Solera said the inward- and outward-facing cameras continuously capture video and identify driver events using AI technology.

Recorded events include harsh acceleration, braking, cornering, speed-limit violations, lane drifting, tailgating, stop-sign violations, and distracted driving. Events are recorded and put into a workflow for driver coaching exercises. Its main features include:

                  • AI for both road and driver-facing cameras.
                  • Continuous video recording.
                    • A dashboard with centralized data.
                      • A driver coaching workflow to aid personalized instruction.

                        Next-Gen Trucking backing

Along with touting its fleet solutions, Solera leaders took time at Outlook 2022 to promote the nonprofit Next Generation in Trucking organization. Solera announced it was joining the new trade organization, which is working with the industry and schools to promote trucking as a career.

Next-Gen president and co-founder Lindsey Trent was among the speakers at the conference this week. She has spent most of this year traveling to industry events and trade schools on a mission to get young people to think about trucking career possibilities. The nonprofit was formed to help combat the growing driver and diesel technician shortage. Solera committed to promoting the association’s efforts to recruit young individuals to the trucking industry and create a skilled, diverse, and equitable workforce.

Cyndi Brandt, Solera’s product marketing VP, told FleetOwner that she and her colleagues have become very passionate about the efforts. “As vendors, we need to support this industry and be part of that solution so they can do their educational programs and offer scholarships,” she said.
