BeyondTrucks launches AI-ready Trailer Yard Module to curb capital waste

With an eye on the massive capital tied up in underutilized trailers, BeyondTrucks launched a new yard module designed to strengthen equipment asset data and physical yard checks with a real-time ‘system of action.’

Key takeaways

  • The issue: Fleets often carry a 5:1 trailer-to-tractor ratio, leaving millions of dollars in capital sitting idle or underutilized.
  • The tech: BeyondTrucks' new Trailer Yard Module unifies tracking data, dispatch activities, and yard checks into a single, real-time dashboard.
  • The goal: By creating a "system of action" rather than a static "system of record," fleets gain the accurate, real-time data needed for AI routing and load-planning algorithms to succeed.

It’s not uncommon for fleets to carry a five-to-one trailer-to-tractor ratio. For specialized carriers with custom-engineered reefers or tankers, that could mean millions of dollars of equipment sitting idle.

To help fleets maximize their trailer utilization and investments, BeyondTrucks launched its new Trailer Yard Module at the Truckload Carriers Association’s (TCA) annual convention. The new module integrates directly into the company’s AI-powered transportation management system (TMS) to provide dispatchers and yard teams with granular, real-time visibility into trailer locations, status, and readiness.

The ‘system of record’ problem

BeyondTrucks CEO Hans Galland said traditional TMS platforms function merely as “systems of record,” where data is keyed in after an event. This creates a fragmented environment in which dispatchers must cross-reference the TMS with separate trailer-tracking software or rely on yard workers walking the lot.

The new Trailer Yard Module aims to bridge those gaps as a “system of action,” Galland said. It unifies data from dispatch activities, trailer-tracking technology, and digital yard checks (via a tablet interface) into a single, multi-tenant architecture.

“It’s about knowing not just where the trailer is,” Galland said during a Truckload 2026 press conference. “It’s about what status the trailer is: Is it empty? Is it full? Is it half empty? Is it a simple product trailer? What was in the trailer before?”

The AI impact

The new module allows complex workflows, such as alerting dispatch to maintenance needs, initiating wash activities, and preventing drivers from hooking up to the wrong trailer. It also feeds into BeyondTrucks’ broader AI capabilities, including the load-planning solution launched in 2025.

Galland noted that high-quality data is the “gating factor” for AI success. If an AI algorithm tried to optimize routing using outdated data from a TMS, the plan would become obsolete. With a real-time, unified database of exactly what trailers are ready and where, the Trailer Yard Module creates a critical foundation for BeyondTrucks’ optimization algorithms, leading to better, faster decisions, he said.

Large and small fleet focuses

The Trailer Yard Module is available as an integrated capability within the BeyondTrucks platform. For smaller fleets, it can act as a stand-alone yard management solution; for larger enterprises, it can interface with existing systems to improve back-office load planning.
