Virtual Technician takes silver at Edison Awards

May 20, 2013

Detroit Diesel Corp. recently announced that its Virtual Technician onboard diagnostic system was named a Silver Award winner in the Applied Technologies/Smart Systems category at the annual Edison Awards. The Edison Awards, named after inventor Thomas Alva Edison, honor excellence in product and service development, human-centered design and innovation.

Developed in collaboration with Zonar Systems and available for Freightliner and Western Star trucks with EPA 2010 and later Detroit engines, the proprietary Virtual Technician technology is designed to help reduce downtime and decrease maintenance costs by providing a technical snapshot of the engine’s status as soon as the Check Engine light comes on. Like other Edison Award entries, Virtual Technician was evaluated by a panel of some 3,000 judges.

“Being recognized with an Edison Award is a significant honor, and we are proud that Detroit Virtual Technician has earned this achievement,” said Richard Shearing, general manager of sales, Detroit. “Virtual Technician is a ground-breaking technology that underscores our unwavering commitment to providing our customers with the most advanced tools to increase productivity and efficiency.”

This is the second award given to Detroit Virtual Technician. In 2012, the system received the American Trucking Associations Technology and Maintenance Council’s “Best of the Best” award.
