A new natural-gas truck fueling station has opened on a 2.9-acre site adjacent to the Ports of Long Beach and Los Angeles. The facility, built by Clean Energy Fuels Corp., is open 24/7 and features two 25,000-gal. liquefied natural gas (LNG) storage tanks, six LNG dispensers and two compressed natural gas (CNG) dispensers.
“We have seen demand for LNG and CNG fuel grow significantly as major trucking companies secure and deploy new natural gas-powered trucks at the ports,” said Andrew Littlefair, Clean Energy president & CEO. “As demand for the environmentally friendly fuel continues to increase, Clean Energy plans to add 50,000 gallons of fuel storage to the new station’s current capacity, as well as four more LNG/CNG fueling lanes.”
The facility is the second Clean Energy natural gas station to open in the area. The first, opened in December 2007 near Southern Counties Express, a local port-trucking firm, supplies about 10,000 LNG gal. of fuel on a daily basis, Clean Energy said.
