Panasonic Computer Solutions Co. has introduced the 3G-ready 3.7 lb. Toughbook F8 with a 14.1 in. wide display and internal optical drive. The company also announced upgrades to its tablet alternative T8 and portable W8 Toughbook models.
The F8 features an Intel Core 2 Duo processor, up to 4GB of RAM, bright widescreen LCD and a 160 GB shock-mounted hard drive, offering up to 6 hours of battery life and Bluetooth 2.0 connectivity, the company said.
All three 8 Series Toughbook mobile computers will offer Qualcomm’s Gobi 3G mobile broadband (WWAN) service for connection to high-speed internet virtually anywhere in the world, Panasonic said.
According to the company, the Toughbook notebooks were dropped onto plywood on 26 different sides to test their durability. In addition, the notebooks successfully survived drops of 12” for the complete unit and 30’ for the shock-mounted hard drive.
The 8 Series Toughbooks will be available in November at an estimated street price of $2,499 for the F8 and $2,099 for the W8 and T8.
