    FMCSA signs systems upgrade deal

    The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) has signed a 5-year, $14-million contract with the Signal Corp. to upgrade the agency's computer network to an Internet-based system. Signal's primary task will be to move FMCSA's computer systems from a mainframe environment to an Internet-enabled, client-server environment. The upgrade should help FMCSA improve collection, storage and analysis
    The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) has signed a 5-year, $14-million contract with the Signal Corp. to upgrade the agency's computer network to an Internet-based system.

    Signal's primary task will be to move FMCSA's computer systems from a mainframe environment to an Internet-enabled, client-server environment. The upgrade should help FMCSA improve collection, storage and analysis of data, including information and statistics ranging from compliance reviews and roadside inspections to traffic enforcement and truck and bus crash statistics.
