Among the various objectives of the standards-setting effort is central monitoring of the nearly 200,000 assets in the hazmat supply chain. FTSC said it believes that widespread implementation of location and sensoring devices will markedly reduce the risk of hijacking and tampering by terrorists, and that a central monitoring system will enable rapid and effective communication with the police, fire dept. and other first responders across the country.

“Developing an effective centralized security-tracking system is going to take a great deal of time and cooperation on the part of many vendors in the industry,” stated Cadec director of marketing Joanne Allen. “Since we are becoming increasingly involved in homeland security, joining FTSC was a natural step for Cadec. We are pleased to participate in such an important effort.”
