LAS VEGAS. Terion, a provider of trailer fleet management systems, announced the launch of a solar charging option called Solar Power Assist to its FleetView 3 product here today at the Truckload Carriers Assn.’s annual convention.
FleetView communicates real-time trailer location and event status when the trailer is tethered or untethered. The new Solar Power Assist is designed to dramatically increase battery life and reduce overall maintenance requirements, thanks to the advanced solar cell technology now integrated into the Terion proprietary marker light antenna, said the company.
According to Terion, Solar Power Assist extends battery life by reducing deep discharges and total charging cycles. Battery life is increased by an average of three times between charges, allowing for longer continued visibility and control of a trailer that sits idle for extended amounts of time. The technology also doubles the overall life of the battery before replacement, the company noted, resulting in the extension of the required maintenance interval and reduced maintenance costs.
FleetView 3 with Solar Power Assist employs high-density solar cell technology, maximizing the charge provided while minimizing the required solar cell footprint, said Terion. The new antenna form factor is identical to current antenna configurations, to enable simple replacement on trailers already equipped with FleetView 3.
