With the number of subscribers on its wireless data network totalling 570,000 by the end of 2000, Cingular Interactive has announced a series of service upgrades to improve coverage and performance of its Intelligent Wireless Network. Formerly BellSouth Wireless Data, Cingular Interactive provides wireless packet data communications covering 93% of the country's urban business population.

Scheduled for this year, the upgrades include two major software revisions that will double the network's switching capacity, at least six new subnetworks to increase system efficiency and at least 300 new base stations in key metropolitan areas to expand network coverage.

Last year, the company added four new substations and 240 news base stations as its subscriber base grew more than 100%.
