Japan’s Bridgestone Corp. and Germany’s Continental AG are teaming up to develop a tire pressure monitoring system for commercial vehicles.

Speaking at the IAA International Commercial Vehicles Show in Hannover, Germany, Dr. Hans-Joachim Nikolin, board member responsible for Continental’s commercial vehicle tires division, said the product will “set a worldwide standard.”

The pressure-monitoring to be used will feature a batteryless module for installation on the inside surface of tires. The sensor will detect air pressure and temperature and will contain a readable/writable ID tag. Wheel-arch modules will pick up the measurements and supply energy to the tire module.

The companies will also develop peripherals that will enable drivers and maintenance personnel to monitor the readings.
