American Freightways gets new COO

American Freightways Inc., an LTL subsidiary of FedEx Corp., has promoted Patrick L. Reed from executive vp of operations to COO. Reporting directly to president & CEO Tom Garrison, Reed is responsible for AF's field operations, linehaul transportation, human resources, physical assets, marketing, pricing and regional sales functions. Reporting directly to president & CEO Tom Garrison, Reed is responsible for AF's field operations, linehaul transportation, human resources, physical assets, marketing, pricing and regional sales functions.

Reed replaces Will Garrison, who retired in November and is now a part-time consultant to American Freightways.

Reed started at American Freightways as a special projects manager. In 1997 he was named division vp of AF's Southeast operating division, before moving to the company's headquarters as executive vp of operations in February of 1999.
