Heartland Express Inc. announced today that its 2Q revenue, net income and earnings per share all increased when compared to the same period last year.

For the second quarte,r revenue increased 12.1% to $84.4 million from $75.3 million. Net income increased 14.2% to $11.0 million from $9.7 million, and basic earnings per share were $0.22 compared to $0.19.

Heartland Express said it posted an industry-leading operating ratio of 81.1% and a 13.1% net margin for the quarter.

During the first six months of 2002, revenue increased 7.1% to $157.6 from $147.2; net income increased 10.6% to $20.6 million from $18.6 million; and basic earnings per share were $0.41 compared with $0.37 for the 2001 period.
