At the Mid-America Trucking Show, ArvinMeritor introduced a new tandem axle and a new air suspension for vocational trailers.
According to Brad Arnold, vp and general manager-axles, the MT-40-143-MA-N tandem, designed to reduce issues relating to driveline angularity, virtually eliminates drivetrain vibration.
The 40,000-lb. GAWR axle features a rear carrier that provides above-centerline positioning of the drive pinion. Arnold said this greatly reduces interaxle driveline angularity, which in turn minimizes driveline vibration. He noted that along with reducing cab noise and vibration, the reduction in driveline vibration minimizes damage to other drivetrain components.
Also incorporated in the axle's design is an integral pinion bearing cage to eliminate the bearing-cage-to-carrier joint and its associated “leak path.”
The new axle is suitable for truck and tractor linehaul applications. Its ratio range is 2.64 to 4.11. The tandem will be available starting in July through all OEMs and will carry a 5-yr./750,000-mi. warranty.
The new FS Series vocational trailer air suspension joins the RHP in the company's newly renamed RideStar suspension product line.
Sergio Carvalho, vp and general manager-trailer products and suspensions, said the new unit provides exceptional ride quality, stability and durability for trailers in such specialized vocational markets as flatbed, tanker, auto hauler and lowboy.
Production of the first model, the FS230 Top Mount, will begin this fall. It will carry a 5-yr./500,000-mi. warranty.
ArvinMeritor also announced that it now offers ANCRA International's heavy-duty cargo restraints to its warehouse distributor and OEM customers as part of its Euclid product line, and distributes the GRA-MAG line of air-suspension seats.
